Ghee
Ingredients
2 pounds of unsalted organic grass-fed butter
Instructions
1. Place the butter into a saucepan.
2. Heat the butter over low to medium-low heat until it is fully melted. It's important to use low heat to prevent burning.
3. Once the butter has melted completely, allow it to simmer gently. Stir occasionally to ensure even cooking.
4. As the butter simmers, you'll notice foam forming on the surface. Skim off this foam with a spoon or ladle and discard it.
5. Continue simmering the butter until it starts to turn a golden color and you notice browned milk solids forming at the bottom of the pot. This process can take anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the heat level and the amount of butter you're using.
6. Once the ghee has taken on a clear, golden color and has a nutty aroma, it's ready. Remove the saucepan from the heat and allow the ghee to cool slightly.
7. Place a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth over a clean, dry container. Carefully pour the melted ghee through the strainer to remove any remaining milk solids.
8. Allow the ghee to cool completely before sealing the container. It will solidify into a creamy consistency as it cools. Store the ghee in a sealed container.
